Ventura, Ventura County
The Ventura Pier dates to 1872, when it was built to load farm goods and lumber onto ships. It is among the oldest wooden piers in California and has been repaired after winter storms many times. From the end of the pier the Channel Islands show on the horizon, and boats to the national park leave from Ventura Harbor a few miles down the coast.
